Before I get into it, let's change the word "plan" to "preferences" okay? Kgreat.
The reason for this slliiiiggghhtt change isn't just semantics, it's what leads me into the very first thing we need to remember when thinking ahead about your birth experience...
1. Your plan may change and that's 100% okay.
Plans change, life teaches us this. Pregnancy, labor and birth is no exception to this rule. Being hung up on a particular plan can be detrimental to your birth experience, BUT knowing what your preferences are can improve your satisfaction overall.
2. You have options.
Looking ahead and thinking over your preferences is a great opportunity to learn about what options you have, ask all the questions, get the information, dig deep. You have all the say in the world regarding your birth experience, regardless of what our society, healthcare system or even your grandma may try to tell you. You can choose your provider, birth location, who is in the room, how to move your body, what tests are done and much more!
3. Don't forget about newborn procedures!
It's so easy to think about your birth experience as everything leading up to that sweet babe coming into the world, but what about those first moments earthside? These things are important to think about and go over with your birth team.
Listen, the bottom line is: YOU have a voice and YOU get to make the decisions! Put together a birth team that empowers you, gives you evidence-based information and provides unwavering support.
